  4. Peter said. "Any ideas?"                
  5. No one answered. "We need to talk with  
  6. Thatcher," Peter insisted.

  8. "Fiber optics?" Rover suggested.

  10. Shem laughed. "Great idea," he said.    
  11. "The ice sheet is criss-crossed with    
  12. ancient connections. Some of them are   
  13. probably still good. We could patch in  
  14. to one, if we could find it. Only one   
  15. problem."

  17. "I..." Rover began, then nodded. "Of    
  18. course. We're trapped down here. The ice
  19. has closed, except for the crevasse."   
  20.  
  21. "Nine thousand feet up," Shem pointed.  
  22. "No airships."

  24. A tentative hand went up.

  26. "Tom?"

  28. "I... Beth-Raine and I were close," Tom 
  29. said.

  31. "You're suggesting lucid dream contact?"

  33. "I could try," he answered, a little    
  34. defensively. "What you do with Wanda."
